Pam Sutton Wins New Classroom Start Up Grant

Congratulations to Pamela Sutton, a first grade teacher at Marsing Elementary School in Marsing, ID, who was awarded one of Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE) $250 New Classroom Start-Up Grants.  Pam plans to purchase basic school supplies to help students learn organizational skills, creative expression, and confidence in writing. Brenda Miller, NWPE Regional Director, presented the award at a staff meeting.

A fairly new member to NWPE, Pam says that she joined the association after speaking with a cohort who was an NWPE member. Prior to that she hadn't realized there was an option for professional support and protection. “I enjoy the freedom to choose the organization which fits my needs as a teacher. I understand the tie some teachers feel toward the local organization, but I feel I NWPE membership gives me more access to information that changes my teaching into an effective professional practice.”

I want to motivate our future leaders academically, socially, and emotionally into confident, successful people.”

Like mothering, Pam has discovered that with teaching there never seems to be enough time in the day.  Her biggest challenge is the great amount of time required to be an effective teacher.  “I am constantly searching for technology that is new and/or relative to our concept, innovative ideas to transform kill and drill skills, and classroom management techniques to keep the 'littles' actively engaged.”  Of course, her greatest satisfaction is that children love to learn.

Setting up a new classroom can be expensive and frustrating for teachers.  Northwest Professional Educators is happy to provide New Classroom Start-Up grants to support educators like Pam who want to provide the best educational program possible. We wish her continued success in her new career and look forward to supporting her with the professional benefits that advance her as an academic professional for many years.
