Last week, the United States finished one of the most contentious and bitter elections in recent memory. While there are a lot of things that could be said about the election, one thing that became clear to people on all sides is that the US has neglected teaching civics in its schools. NWPE Grant Advances Odessa Science Program

Congratulations to Mr. Jeff Wehr, NWPE member and Odessa High School science teacher.  Mr. Wehr was awarded a $500 grant to purchase technological resources to make science more engaging and relevant to students.  NWPE’s support will help the science department's goal of “creating scientists by actively involving students in engaging science tasks, allowing students to see themselves as scientists, and exploring and collaborating with local, state, national, and global science professionals.”

 
Shawna Exline Promotes Justice with NWPE Grant

Congratulations to NWPE member, Shawna Exline, grades 6-8 English/language arts teacher at Idaho Fine Arts Academy in the West Ada School District, Meridian, ID.  Ms. Exline  was awarded a $300 grant on Wednesday, October 26, by NWPE Regional Director Brenda Miller to fund transportation costs for a 7th grade field trip to the Boise Art Museum's exhibit “Witnessing History” where students will explore “Minidoka: Artist as Witness”  and learn about the ways artists have responded to the Japanese internment camp at Minidoka during World War II.  Students will participate in activities highlighting the experiences of the people who lived there.

Linda Buczynski Headed to Big Apple with NWPE Scholarship

Congratulations to NWPE member, Linda Buczynski, K-5 visual arts teacher at Sage International School of Boise.  Ms. Buczynski was awarded a $500 Teacher Scholarship on Friday, October 28, by NWPE Regional Director Brenda Miller to attend and present at the National Art Education Association (NAEA) Conference in New York City this spring.
