NWPE Applauds West Ada’s New Superintendent for Dedication to Students and Teacher Choice

After numerous public forums and interviews with Dr. Mary Ann Ranells, former superintendent of Lakeland School District in Rathdrum, ID, the West Ada board of directors has offered Dr. Ranells its superintendent position and she has accepted. This follows a contentious and controversial struggle between West Ada’s new board members and former superintendent Dr. Linda Clark. NWPE Member Catherine Goff Wins $500 Teacher Scholarship

Ms. Goff’s scholarship will help her attend the 2016 General and Special Education Conference in Seattle, WA, at which she will learn the latest brain-based theories/studies in reading, writing, and math strategies and interventions. Advocating Teacher Choice at West Ada Listening Session

The West Ada School District Board of Directors conducted its second community listening session on November 30 to hear the characteristics that community members think are important in hiring a new superintendent. NWPE's Becky Baird Opposes Common Core for Xavier Charter

According to an article published in the Times News, Xavier Charter School leaders, although not stating that the standards are bad, don't believe that they "accurately reflect the curriculum and values of the Twin Falls public charter school." Mr. George has been recognized as one of Idaho’s top secondary science educators. According to the Idaho Press Tribune, Mr. George was honored with three other teachers as part of the annual Idaho Science Teachers Conference held in Rexburg, Idaho, last week. Mike Antonucci, director of the Education Intelligence Agency, reports that in states without compulsory union fees, NEA affiliates lost more than 47,000 active members in 2014 while NEA affiliates in agency fee states gained about 5,300 active members. This is the second consecutive year that the Charter Academy has been ranked in the top 100 of the most challenging high schools as rated by the Washington Post.
