NWPE Member Jean Robinson and Students are Out of this World!
posted by: Cindy Omlin | December 31, 2014, 11:00 PM Back in 2005, Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy teacher Jean Robinson and a trio of students from across the United States and Mexico had the opportunity to work with Dr. Kobie Boykins, a mechanical engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) in Pasadena, CA, and NASA's current spokesman for the Space Program. They were selected through National Geographic's JASON Project which takes a team of teachers and students somewhere in the world to work with research scientists. NWPE Member Kim Zeydel, Idaho's 2015 Teacher of the Year!

Kim, an NWPE member and teacher at Meridian Academy, West Ada School District's alternative school, was awarded the honor at an assembly in front of the school's 150 students by State Superintendent Tom Luna. Other dignitaries who attended the assembly include Gov. Butch Otter, West Ada Superintendent Linda Clark, Meridian Mayor Tammy De Weerd, and several lawmakers. Lorelle Williams Awarded Scholarship to Learn "Effective Strategies for an Engaged Classroom"

Ms. Brenda Miller, NWPE Regional Membership Director, presented the award at a staff department meeting. Ms. Williams will utilize the award to take the course “Teach Like a Champ: Effective Strategies for an Engaged Classroom” offered through Learner’s Edge. Cottonwood's Prairie Elementary Achieves Blue Ribbon School Award

Congratulations to the students and staff at Pocatello Community Charter School (PCCS) in Pocatello, Idaho. NWPE Members & Students Excel at Mars Rover Competition
posted by: Cindy Omlin | July 03, 2014, 10:28 PM Congratulations to NWPE members Darlene Frates and Beth Brubaker at North Idaho STEM Charter Academy who led their students to capture seven of 11 awards at the Idaho TECH Mars Rover Challenge held at the University of Idaho on May 2! Student teams from grades 4-6 competed in the science and engineering design competition by building a Mars Rover using a LEGO kit provided by the NASA Idaho Space Grant Consortium. The Consortium sponsored the event. Each rover went through a number of design challenges including: Hill climb, blind driving, speed test and rock collection. The 27 student teams also gave presentations explaining their design process. Continue Reading...

Brad is participating in the twelve day Memorial Library Summer Seminar in New York City from June 21 – July 2, 2014. Brad is one of 24 teachers from across the nation chosen to participate in the seminar through a competitive, national application process. The United States Academic Decathlon is a national organization that has been around for more than 40 years. Its mission is to promote learning and academic excellence among students of varying achievement levels by developing and providing multidisciplinary academic competitions.
