The Kindles will allow Ms. Stover-Russell to download reading and math applications to differentiate instruction for students. Each Kindle will be set up with four profiles: one for reading comprehension, one for high frequency words, one for spelling, and one for mathematics. Within each profile, there will be different levels of practice based on students' individual needs. Despite the challenges that teachers face, Ms. Stover-Russell believes in soldiering on and keeping up with the times to best serve students:
Prior to becoming an NWPE member, Ms. Stover-Russel was a Mountain Home Education Association member for many years. When she decided to switch to NWPE for her professional support and protection, her local union representative and the state union president tried to convince her to stick with the union. But, she didn’t budge. “I stuck with NWPE and I have never regretted it in the slightest. I like that the dues are 1/3 the cost and I want to choose what causes or campaigns that I support rather than have someone choose for me. Some will argue about all of the wonderful things that the union has done for the teachers in our area such as the master contract, no teacher duties, etc., but I find that the union sometimes stands in the way of what is best for students. I'm proud to be an NWPE member!”
