Ms. Thomsen joined NWPE a year ago upon the advice of a friend. She noted in her application that she greatly appreciates the opportunity for classroom grants and scholarship money that NWPE offers in addition to the legal protections and authentic voice she has through NWPE surveys. “Choice in professional organizations is essential to keeping balance and avoiding monopolies of any sort. I’ve never felt ‘pressure’ from other organizations to join them or submit to their ideas, but I have seen another organization vote/endorse candidates/put out public statements that did not represent who I am and what I believe, either as an individual or as part of the professional collective. I am pleased to have alternative support from NWPE.”
