Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE) Regional Director Brenda Miller recently awarded $250 New Classroom Start Up Grants to two West Ada teachers and NWPE members, Sarah Holloway and Robin Stewart. The awards were presented at the teachers' school staff meetings.
Prior to teaching, Ms. Holloway served the County Sheriff Reserve in Perryville, AR, was Health & Safety Coordinator, Auxiliary Security Force and Personnel for the U.S. Navy. A proponent of service and civic engagement, she believes it is important for her students to explore arguments related to political issues from multiple political viewpoints. She is inspired by the look of "ah-ha" on her students’ faces and wants to make sure that when they come to class they learn something new and also laugh. Sarah appreciates her membership in NWPE. "I am a memeber of NWPE because I do not believe that unions should have control for only those who they represent. I love the benefits and instant actions taken by NWPE and love that when I call them they know who I am. I am a name...not a number."
Robin first joined NWPE for our comprehensive liability insurance policy. But our other services have kept her a happy member as well. "NWPE’s core values align with my own. As an educator, my first duty is to my students. It is always good to have choices. Joining a professional organization over a union benefits teachers because unions may have other political intentions, other than our student’s best interest at heart." Setting up a new classroom can be expensive and frustrating for the teacher. Northwest Professional Educators is happy to provide New Classroom Start-Up grants to support educators like Ms. Holloway and Ms. Stewart who want to provide the best educational program possible. Congratulations to both teachers!
