Brenda Miller, NWPE Regional Director for Idaho, recently tickled Treasure Valley teachers and students alike with her celebration of Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
She strolled in as the Cat in the Hat to ten K-3rd grade classes at 3 schools. Both members and nonmembers invited Brenda into their classrooms. At Greenhurst Elementary School in Nampa, the staff was so grateful for Brenda’s fun outreach that they took a picture of her in front of the school sign with the principal.
Spreading the cheer to rest of the staff, Brenda coordinated her visits with school administration to provide treats and membership information in the school’s teachers’ lounges where she visited with staff during their lunch breaks.
Brenda’s favorite memory of the week’s events was the little 1st grader at North Elementary in Mountain Home who ran after her with a thank you note she had written telling Brenda just how much she loves Dr. Seuss books and included a drawing of the Cat in the Hat in her thank you note.
Brenda enjoyed all the opportunities to share her love of reading with students and her respect for the efforts of teachers. “It was great fun to get the students to read along with me, repeating the clever and fun rhyming words that Dr. Seuss wove together with such playfulness.”
