Congratulations to our NWPE members at Idaho Arts Charter School for its continued achievements.  The Arts Schools Network (ASN), has awarded The Arts Innovation Award to the school and its Electric Rock Orchestra for "breaking the mold" in using arts in teaching academics, and for making a positive difference in the students' lives and their community.

electricAs described in the Idaho Press Tribune, “The award is designed to recognize schools committed to taking innovative artistic risks, and breaking the mold in using arts as a vehicle for teaching academics.  The orchestra is a limited size class for students in grades nine through 12 who have attained a high level of skill on an acoustic instrument and will learn to play a five-string electric instrument. It is one of only a handful of school electric orchestra programs in the nation.”

ASC is the nation's largest professional membership organization of specialized arts schools in the country.  It also named Idaho Arts Charter school as one of its Exemplary Schools at its 2014-2015.  ASN awards honor ASN member schools and individuals, as well as their communities, for their commitment to and demonstration of excellence in arts education. An awards ceremony will take place in October at ASN's 2014 National Conference in Denver, CO.

And, last but not least, the school has been awarded an Idaho Technology Pilot Program grant for $205,604.80 to implement a laptop/Chromebooks program.  Idaho Arts Charter School was one of ninety nine schools that applied for technology awards this year.  Fifteen of those schools were chosen to share in $3 million of state funding for the tech pilot grants.
