Historic Hurricanes: Teacher Resources

Currently Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina are all bracing for possible impact from Hurricane Irma. The hurricane is massively wide and has broken records for strength and duration. If forecasts are right, it will hit the US weeks after Hurricane Harvey slammed into Texas’s gulf coast, the first time back-to-back hurricanes have hit the US coast.

 
Yakima teacher and student privacy practices under scrutiny following teacher Facebook post

A Yakima, WA, teacher frustrated with his district’s policy on student privacy posted a comment to his personal Facebook account that has potentially landed him in hot water with his school district. His concern relates to the issue of the district requiring him to deceive parents, an act apparently advised in order to comply with privacy statutes, such as the federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act regarding student "confidential health and education information."


 
A Ten Year Long Dream Becomes a Reality - Vision Charter School Ribbon Cutting

Vision Charter School is a K-12th Grade College Prep Science and Art School focusing on creating well-educated citizen leaders. The school opened in 2007 on less than three acres in five portables and housed 230 kindergarten through seventh grade students. Now, ten years later, the 53,000 square foot permanent school building is located on twenty two acres on Ward Road between Linden Road and Highway 20-26 and is home to approximately 700 kindergarten through twelfth grade students. The school boasts numerous NWPE members and awarding-winning teachers and students.

 
Rural schools turn to high-tech teacher training solutions

In an isolated area deep in the Appalachian Mountains, finding enough teachers can be a challenge, to say the least.


And once teachers arrive, schools have to contend with another problem. Educators must meet annual requirements that dictate how much time they spend improving their craft – even though teachers’ colleges aren’t often nestled in such remote locations.
