Hope, ID, Teacher Awarded NWPE New Classroom Start Up Grant

Congratulations to Ms. Nancy Schmid, an NWPE member and first grade teacher at Hope Elementary School, in Hope, ID.  NWPE Executive Director Cindy Omlin presented Ms. Schmid with a New Classroom Start-Up Grant for $250 at an afternoon staff collaboration meeting on Wednesday, March 6.

 
Stranger than Fiction: Teacher Retires At 94

Ms. Rose Gilbert, a 94-year-old Los Angeles resident, just recently retired from teaching after 63 years of service. While she has not been officially named the country's oldest teacher, she certainly ranks among the most senior. 

 
Cursive Writing: Spare Tire or Fourth Wheel?

Many people view cursive writing as analogous to a spare tire, it's not completely necessary but it's definitely a good tool to have in your repertoire. However, the Idaho State Board of Education highly values cursive, enough, in fact, to make it a requirement for Idaho schools. The measure passed with a recent vote in the Senate. 

 
NWPE Members Score Digital Learning Day Awards

Congratulations to NWPE members who won awards in the 21st Century Classroom Technology Innovation and Integration Video Award Contest!  The contest was sponsored by the Idaho State Department of Education (SDE) for Digital Learning Day (DLD), February 6, 2013.  According the SDE, "The goal of Digital Learning Day, a partnership with the Alliance for Excellent Education, is to highlight innovative teaching taking place in classrooms in Idaho and across the country so teachers can collaborate and share best practices with each other."
