Mansfield Educators Begin New Era of Local Leadership

The certified teaching staff in Mansfield, WA, has taken the bold step to declare independence from the Washington Education Association (WEA) by replacing the Mansfield Teacher Association (MTA), a local affiliate of the WEA, with a new local teacher organization that has no ties to the WEA.

 
5 Resources to Teach Your Students Programming

As we progress into the 21st century, it’s becoming clear that learning how to program is no longer an option for our students.  For many teachers who never learned these cutting edge skills in school themselves, knowing how to help their students tackle these concepts may seem to be a daunting task.  Fortunately, the world is filled with resources for beginning programmers and the teachers who are helping them.  We’ve included our five favorite below:

 
Cottonwood's Prairie Elementary Achieves Blue Ribbon School Award

Congratulations to the students and staff at Prairie Elementary School in Cottonwood, ID!  The school has been designated a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.  The Blue Ribbon School program honors schools that achieve high marks or make significant improvements in their learning.  See television news coverage here.

 
Human Trafficking Focus of Idaho PSC

Nichole Hall, Assessment Coordinator in the Idaho Department of Education, made a presentation in May to Professional Standards Commission (PSC) members on human trafficking and the need for training on this issue for Idaho's educators.  NWPE board member Mikki Nuckols and members Ginny Welton and Angie Lakey-Campbell serve on the PSC.
