A Salute to the Flag and Pledge of Allegiance

Your students learn to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, but many may not have been taught what it means.  With Flag Day approaching (June 14), it might be a good time to help students learn to more fully appreciate the history of and the concepts expressed in the Pledge such as liberty, justice, national unity, and recognizing that our freedoms come from God, not the State.

 
Waterville Student and Staff Leadership Thrives When Cultivated

The teachers and students of the tiny farming community of Waterville, WA (its mascot, the Shocker, is a shock of wheat), are truly focused on educating the whole person—not just focusing on academics in order to raise test scores.  As a result, they could very well be raising scores higher than a pure academic focus alone could accomplish.

Xavier Charter School's NWPE Members and Students Achieve

Congratulations to Xavier Charter School's  teachers and students on taking first place in the state competition of the U.S. Academic Decathlon held in Boise, ID, in March.  The United States Academic Decathlon is a national organization that has been around for more than 40 years.  Its mission is to promote learning and academic excellence among students of varying achievement levels by developing and providing multidisciplinary academic competitions.  Students compete in ten events.

 
Medical Breakthrough Coming for Jean Robinson's Students?

Congratulations to NWPE member Jean Robinson, Earth Science teacher at Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy, and her middle school ExploraVision team!  Jean led her middle school students to win the Region 6 competition of the 2014 Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision program, the world's largest K-12 science competition.  The students' project could lead to a potential scientific and medical breakthrough for the treatment of migraine headaches.
