Nicole Latsch, Aberdeen, ID, Awarded NWPE Grant

Congratulations to Ms. Nicole Latsch, 5th grade teacher at Aberdeen Elementary School, Aberdeen, ID, on being awarded a $330 Classroom Grant from Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE), the state’s only non-union professional teacher association. The award will fund the purchase the Rosetta Stone Spanish program to help teachers learn Spanish in order to communicate more effectively with parents and enhance student achievement in a district in which approximately 50% of the students are Hispanic with the majority of their parents having limited English.

 
Aaron Ritter, Principal, iSucceed Virtual HS, Awarded NWPE Grant

Congratulations to Mr. Aaron Ritter, principal of iSucceed Virtual High School, in Boise, ID.  Mr. Ritter has been awarded a $500 Classroom Grant from Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE), the state’s only non-union professional teacher association. Ms. Leah Guelker, NWPE representative, presented the grant at a staff luncheon sponsored by NWPE.

 
Sarah Turner, Blackfoot, ID Teacher, Awarded NWPE Grant

Congratulations to Ms. Sarah Turner, a 2nd-4th grade teacher at Blackfoot Charter Community Learning Center in Blackfoot, ID, on her $500 Classroom Grant from Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE), the state’s only non-union professional teacher association. Ms. Kelly Jo Fisk, NWPE member, presented the grant at a staff meeting. The award will fund the purchase of math manipulatives such as base-10 blocks and fraction tiles.

 
10 Teacher Resources for Understanding Teen Depression

High school can be a difficult time psychologically, socially, and emotionally for many students. According to statistics, by the end of their teen years, 20% of young adults struggle with depression. Additionally, over 50% of teens with depression will attempt suicide at some point.

 
Stephanie Rice, Council, ID, English Teacher Wins NWPE Grant

Congratulations to Ms. Stephanie Rice, a K-12 English/Language Arts teacher at Council Jr-Sr High School in Council, ID, on her $500 Classroom Grant award from Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE), the state’s only non-union professional teacher association. Ms. Leah Guelker, NWPE representative, presented the grant at a staff gathering. The award will fund Ms. Rice’s purchase of e-books for her classroom’s Kindle e-readers expanding the reading choices available to her students.
