Anthony Haskett, Nampa, ID, Receives NWPE Grant

Congratulations to Mr. Anthony Haskett, a fourth grade teacher at Ronald Reagan Elementary in Nampa, ID.  At a recent staff meeting, Ms. Leah Guelker, NWPE representative, presented Mr. Haskett with a $460 Classroom Grant to purchase two iPods to allow students to create multimedia presentations as well as use the apps to support learning in the classroom.

 
Virtual Education and School Counseling

Virtual schools are not only bringing a whole new element to education, but also to school counseling. Approximately 310,000 students in 30 states now attend “multi-district, fully online” schools, according to one report.  As the field grows, schools are continuing to develop best practices to meet students' academic and socials needs.

Teaching Math to Young Students: What the Research Says

The What Works Clearinghouse has released a new report on the math practices that we, as educators, should use when instructing young children.  For those who do not know, The What Works Clearinghouse is a part of the Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences.  Its goal is to read through the mounds of educational research that are published each year and identify those practices that are research based. So when it prints a report that says this is what we know about teaching children math, teachers, administrators and other curriculum writers should sit up and pay attention.
