today released the results of the Program International Student Assessment (PISA). The assessment tests the academic skills of 15-year olds in 65 different countries and school systems. The results are considered paramount to understanding and comparing academic performances across the word.

To anyone interested in the teaching of social studies and civics, it is no surprise that the public has mixed opinions when it comes to this highly important subject.  On one hand, people seem to be growing more and more distressed at the lack of civics and history knowledge among the population. It seems that almost every week there’s some sort of news article or study pointing out how much Americans don’t know, soon followed by a cry for more civics education in schools.

 
Reports Push Schools to Take Concussions More Seriously

This year, Massachusetts’ high schools reported more than 4,400 student concussions and head injuries. Experts assert that the recent statistics don’t necessarily reflect an increase in head injuries, but an increase in reporting from schools.
