Kelly Hughes, NWPE member, wins new classroom start up grant

Kelly Hughes, a K-12 music teacher at Garden Valley Schools, ID, and a Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE) member, recently received a $250 New Classroom Start-Up Grant to purchase a bass drum with carrier to help outfit a new school drum corps. NWPE Regional Director Brenda Miller presented the award at a school staff meeting.

Just this month, Minnesota Teacher of the Year Tom Rademacher wrote a narrative in theEducation Post about his experience with the teachers union that bestowed him such a title. And to put it bluntly, despite his support of the union model, his union expose describes a less than enthusiastic account of his involvement.

Even the most innocent of intentions can be taken out of context, blown out of proportion, and have devastating consequences for teachers. Take special education teacher Leo Bennett-Cauchon, for example. A celebrated special education teacher, Leo was reprimanded for hugging one of his students.

 
West Ada NWPE Members Win Grant Awards

Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE) Regional Director Brenda Miller recently awarded  $250 New Classroom Start Up Grants to two West Ada teachers and NWPE members, Sarah Holloway and Robin Stewart.  The awards were presented at the teachers' school staff meetings.
