NWPE Signs on to National School Choice Week

At the end of this month, the grassroots movement known as National School Choice Week will once again take shape in schools, districts, and cities across the country. From January 26th to February 1st, 2014, school choice advocates across the nation will gather to demonstrate their belief that parents should be empowered to choose the best educational environments for their children. NWPE is proud to be a partner in this unprecedented opportunity to shine a positive spotlight on the need for effective education options for all students and teachers.

 
Rachel Rojas Wins $500 Teacher Scholarship

Congratulations to Ms. Rachel Rojas, a high school art teacher at the Idaho Arts Charter School in Nampa, ID.  Ms. Rojas has been awarded a $500 scholarship from Northwest Professional Educators to attend the National Art Education Association Conference this March in San Diego. The grant was presented at a staff meeting by NWPE representative, Ms. Leah Guelker.

Congratulations to Katie Graupman, an English teacher at Timberlake High School, in Lakeland School District, Rathdrum, ID, who was awarded the 2013 Milken Educator Award for the state of Idaho.

 
Getting your union dues rebate – Act now!

Washington State nonunion agency fee payers should have received their WEA Hudson Packet which the Washington Education Association (WEA) sends to nonunion agency fee payers. The WEA indicates that in order for agency fee payers to receive their $200-$300 union fees rebate for dues not used for representation, the objection/challenge letter must be postmarked no later than January 13.
